Lawyers are limited to 12 credits of verifiable alternative learning formats per reporting period. However, attorneys who reside, work, and are licensed in a mandatory continuing education jurisdiction that allows 100% of continuing education courses to be taken by other verifiable learning formats can mutually fulfill their New Jersey continuing education obligation through 100% verifiable learning formats (Regulation 201:8). Newly admitted lawyers must also obtain 15 of the 24 credits required in 5 of the 9 newly admitted areas of expertise. There are two compliance groups: Group 1 is made up of lawyers who sit from January 1 to 30. June and reports in even-numbered years; Group 2 is composed of lawyers born between July 1 and December 31 who file their return in odd-numbered years. All credits must be declared by December 31. Lawyers must earn at least 12 credits through live programs and are limited to 12 credits of alternative verifiable learning formats per reporting period.
